Meeting & Chat Room Info

General Infomation

The chat room has two rooms:

1. The Chat Lobby/Meeting

This room is used for meetings at scheduled times and is for general recovery chat otherwise.

2. The Quiet Room

The quiet room is a place you can ask to go if you would like to share something on a one to one basis with another member.  This might be something personal or of a sensitive nature.  Please do ask another member whom you feel comfortable with to go to this room if you need help or to share away from the group setting.

Meeting Protocol

Type ! if you wish to share--this is equivalent to raising your hand at a meeting. We ask members not to raise their hand until the person taking the meeting has opened the meeting up for general sharing.

Type ? if you have a question.  Someone will instant message you privately if this is during a meeting.

Type "GA" when you're finished sharing. "GA" means Go Ahead.

Please wait until you're invited to speak by the person taking the meeting before sharing, for example: "GA UserName" .

Meetings run very smoothly when we follow the above protocol.

Purpose of the Chatroom

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

The function of the chat room between meetings is to provide a place for continued discussion about recovery and to provide a place for the fellowship that will enhance recovery.

We are all personally responsible for our own conduct in meeting this purpose. For example, engaging in personal attacks, vulgarity, and jokes in bad taste, may be seen as discouraging to the purpose of the room.

A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

We ought to all be aware that we might be the only example of Alcoholics Anonymous that some visitors will ever see . . .
